Introducing an Interview Blog Series by Hon. Dr. Arne Carlsen (HOF 2017)
The history of adult and continuing education is shaped not only by policies, institutions, and research but also by the people whose vision, dedication, and leadership have advanced the field. Their experiences offer valuable insights into adult education's development and lessons that can inform its future.
As part of the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame's Leadership Perspectives blog, Voices of Experience: Preserving the Legacy of European Adult Education is a special interview series featuring conversations conducted by Hon. Dr. Arne Carlsen (HOF 2017) with distinguished leaders associated with the IACEHOF European Chapter. The series brings their experiences and insights to the broader Hall community while contributing to the ongoing dialogue about the past, present, and future of adult and continuing education.
The series highlights the professional journeys, contributions, and reflections of leaders whose work has helped shape adult and continuing education across Europe and internationally. Through their personal accounts, readers will gain insights into the experiences, achievements, challenges, and collaborations that have influenced the development of the field.
Explore the Interviews
Every two weeks, we will feature a leader, providing a brief introduction to their interview and highlighting selected experiences and contributions. Rather than retelling their stories, each blog will invite readers to explore the full interview and hear directly from the featured leader.
Each installment will also include "Reflect, Connect, and Continue the Conversation," a section designed to encourage readers to reflect on the interview, connect its insights with their own experiences, and share perspectives on the continuing development of adult and continuing education.
Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future
Preserving the legacy of adult education means more than documenting achievements. It involves recognizing the people, relationships, ideas, and collective efforts that have shaped the field and considering how their experiences can inform future generations.
Through Voices of Experience, we celebrate these contributions while creating opportunities for dialogue across generations of adult educators, researchers, policymakers, and lifelong learning advocates.
Reflect, Connect, and Continue the Conversation
As we launch this series, we invite you to consider:
1. Why is it important to preserve the experiences and contributions of leaders in adult and continuing education?
2. What lessons from earlier generations of adult educators can help us address today's challenges?
3. How can we ensure that the knowledge and experiences of established leaders are shared with future generations?
Join the Conversation
We invite you to follow the series, explore the interviews, and share your reflections. Together, we can honor the legacy of those who have shaped adult learning and education while continuing to build its future.
